911 threat leads to Groesbeck High School ‘lock out’

News

The Groesbeck Police Department was informed of a threat at Groesbeck High School on Monday afternoon.

The person who dialed 911 said, “I’m going to shoot up the high school,” and then hung up.

The phone was believed to be an inactive cell phone, but was capable of accessing 911 services. The caller did not identify a specific high school, but the signal was received on the Groesbeck tower. This was all the information the dispatcher could get.

The department notified Groesbeck Independent School District administration as a precaution, and a “lock out” was performed. Police personnel arrived on the scene and assessed the situation. They later determined the threat was not credible.

The “lock out” was lifted shortly before 3:00 p.m., with police personnel remaining on the scene as a precautionary measure.
