A day at the Farmers Market

Kathy Dupree with Mama D’s jellies, jams and pickles had a reason to smile Saturday as local residents were stopping by her stand and tasting her homemade goodies. She says: “I love when someone says, oh my gosh, this is just like my grandma makes.”

The market was full of local agricultural producers and artisan vendors. They had samples displayed on their tables so customers could taste them before making a purchase.

“We have garlic parmesan, kettle, salted caramel and cinnamon toast,” said Mackenzy Rogers, a local popcorn vendor.

One young resident particularly enjoyed the burritos, prepared at the Mexican food stand.

One vendor got a lot of attention with her goat milk products, such as soaps, lotions and shampoos, both for humans and pets.Cheryl Schocke says, a lot of companies are adding goat milk to their products “to return your skin to its normal pH, so it’s very healthy for you and very good for your skin.”

Many Waco residents not only enjoy the local products, but say they feel good about supporting local farmers and vendors.

The farmers market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. year-around and in April it will also be open on Tuesdays.
