Copperas Cove police say that it appears that an argument over a dog’s aggressive behavior toward a child led to a knife attack and damage to a vehicle.

Police say it happened Friday at a convenience store and ended up with two vehicles chasing through the streets.

Officers say the original call was about two vehicles driving recklessly apparently one chasing the other.

The investigating officer made contact with one of the drivers who is listed in court papers as the victim in the case who told him it started in the parking lot of the Q Star convenience store at 201 North 1st Street.

He said he had pulled up to the store and his son went in to buy something, but on the way in a dog in the vehicle parked next to them became very aggressive and started to bark and bite at him.

The victim then went into the store to confront the owner of the dog about its behavior, at which time the argument broke out.

At one point the man, identified as  Paulverson Garcia Cabotaje, is accused of charging at the victim with a knife, trying to strike the victim several times with the knife as the victim sat in his vehicle.

Rolling the window up prevented any serious injury, but Cabotaje is accused of striking the vehicle several times leaving marks on the passenger side window and damage to the body paint of the vehicle..

Police were able to identify the suspect, obtain warrants and made the arrest on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
