The body of Milam County Sheriff David Green was expected to be returned to Cameron Monday night following his death Friday in an Oregon hospital.

His body was scheduled to arrive at the Austin airport about 7:35 p.m.

Several game wardens, sheriff’s deputies and troopers were to meet him there and escort him back to Milam County, coming through Thorndale and Rockdale, and turning north on Highway 77 to continue to Cameron, expected to be arriving between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m.

Several members of various Milam County volunteer fire departments were also to join in the precession.

Greene had been in intensive care after suffering a massive heart attack while on vacation June 26.

Funeral arrangements were still pending Monday morning.

At the time of his death he was serving his third term as Milam County Sheriff and had a 35 year career in law enforcement.

Milam County Chief Deputy Chris White will officially be appointed and sworn in as sheriff.

He was appointed interim sheriff by Milam County Commissioners after Greene suffered his heart attack.
