The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of a phone scam targeting registered sex offenders.

An individual, disguising himself as a detective, is calling registered sex offenders claiming they have an arrest warrant for failing to register their status with the Sheriff’s Office. This individual is demanding the offenders to provide personal information over the phone.

The caller has used the names of true Sheriff’s Office employees who an offender would know to further convince them that they are not being scammed.

If you receive a call similar to this, do not provide any personal information, including credit card numbers, or social security numbers. The Sheriff’s Office will not call anyone, including registered sex offenders, demanding personal information or any form of payment over the telephone. This information is to be gained in person through official meetings.
