Buckeye Bingo shooting identification, case called attempted capital murder

Waco police have identified the man who died in a shooting involving a bingo hall security guard on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Patrick Swanton says he was known to be 35-year-old Juan Marcus Howard  of Waco.

The Security Officer works for Pro Security Group.

Swanton says, “It is believed at this point in the investigation that when the suspect, Howard,attacked the Security Officer a struggle ensued over the officers weapon.”

“During that struggle the officer received a gunshot wound to the left hand, retained the weapon and shot the suspect in the upper torso.”

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Peterson.

The Security Officer was transported to a local hospital and there is not an update available  on his condition as of Thursday morning..

The incident occurred outside  Buckeye Bingo at 2423 Cole Avenue in Waco just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.

There were people inside the bingo hall at the time but no one inside was injured.

Police are calling the case an attempted capital murder since the attack was made on the security guard.
