The Woodway City Council has announced John Hatchel as the interim city manager Monday night, he will appoint Bret Crook as the Director of Public Safety Wednesday.

This comes nearly a month after sexual harassment allegations put the former Director and City Manager Yost Zakhary in hot water.

The city council held three executive sessions, one focused on interviewing interim City Manager John Hatchel, and in the second one, they recommended Bret Crook, the Assistant Director of Public Safety to be appointed as Director.

The last executive session focused on the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against the city and Yost Zakhary.

Assistant Director Bret Crook has taken over as the director of public safety ever since Zakhary’s administrative leave. William Klump served as the acting city manager.

An agenda item suggested a council member would be appointed to head a search committee for a permanent city manager in an open session, but that item ended up skipped.

The city allowed Zakhary to resign immediately last week after dispatcher Sandra Bickel filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him and the city.

The city says they don’t owe Zakhary a dime for the remaining term of his contract.
