A McLennan County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a car crash early Thursday morning at 25th Street and Cole Avenue in Waco.
The deputy was the occupant of an unmarked car that was struck by another vehicle officers say may have been involved in an earlier robbery.
Waco fire units were sent to the scene at 1:30 Thursday morning, with their report indicating three injured on the scene,
The fire department reports indicate the deputy had been ejected from his vehicle and was found lying in the street wile two occupants from the other car were sitting on a curb.
The deputy was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital as were the occupants of the other vehicle who were found t the scene.
Ironically, the crash occurred almost in front of the Buckeye Bingo hall where earlier on Wednesday a shooting involving a security guard and another man resulted in the other man being killed and the security guard being wounded.
Waco police investigating the crash said it occurred as two Sheriff;s units were involved in a pursuit, one a marked unit and one an unmarked unit.
The vehicle being pursued was an SUV with four occupants.
During the course of the pursuit, the SUV collided with the unmarked unit, resulting in serious damage to both vehicles.
The driver and the front seat passenger fled following the crash, the rear seat passengers sustained injuries and remained at the scene.
The circumstances of the pursuit have not been released.
