Central Texas teachers, along with Baylor University scientists, are studying water at the Lake Waco Wetlands.
The Environmental Protection Agency is funding this workshop with a $91,000 grant.
The goal is to get teachers out of classrooms and into a field.
Professor Suzanne Nesmith, Ph.D says area teachers can now apply for sub-grants to help fund science projects thanks to this grant.
“If we are not able to have teachers understanding this, then we’re not going to have our children [understanding] this. And they are the future,” Nesmith says.
The university is also contributing with $30,000.
Twenty teachers teaching grades 4 till 12 are part of this.
They come from 14 area schools and one private school.
