Freestone County Jail temporarily closing

The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office will not be housing incarcerated people at their jail for the time being.

This comes due to a severe shortage of manpower and trained jail staff.

The Sheriff’s Office says they have no other choice at this time but to house all of their jail population at another facility. This was a recommendation made by the State Jail Commission.

Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley says he will not allow the safety, security and welfare of any officer or incarcerated person to be compromised due to a lack of manpower and properly trained staff.

Those incarcerated in Freestone County will be housed in the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
