The only K-9 in Groesbeck is sporting some new gear!
Opal is one of the few K-9s who is not a German shepherd – but a pitbull. She helps in the Narcotics Department and recently got her ballistic vest.
The First United Methodist Church Children’s Group paid for it in full. Officers say they can’t thank them enough for their generosity.
“Outstanding people. Really, really supportive. And I mean, we can’t think them enough because that was an expensive item. And the fact that it didn’t have to come out of city budget was extremely helpful,” says Chris Henson, Groesbeck Police Chief.
The vest is not 100 percent bulletproof, but is bullet resistant. Police say should someone try to shoot Opal, she’ll be protected.
