A 25 year old man who had been arrested earlier this month on charges of leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured a motorcyclist has been found dead of a gunshot wound in Hubbard.
Cody William Jones had been charged with failure to stop and render aid in the accident that occurred in June.
He had been arrested on a Waco Police Department warrant, booked into the McLennan County Jail August 15, and had posted $5000 bond and released the same day.
Hubbard police had gotten a call about 6:45 a.m. Saturday saying someone at a residence in the 1000 block of State Highway 171 was threatening to shoot himself.
Police arrived at 6:59 a.m. with emergency medical personnel arriving shortly afterward.
Police said others were present at the locatio n, but there had been no witnesses when the shot was fired.
A rifle was found next to the body.
The affidavit filed in support of the arrest warrant for Jones stated that investigators believed he was the driver of a vehicle that was going the wrong way in the 1900 block of North Jack Kultgen Expressway when he collided with the motorcycle.
Court papers said the vehicle involved belonged to a third party who gave police the name of the person driving.
Waco police had gotten the warrant August 9 and that there had been an agreement worked out for Jones to turn himself in.
