KISD investigating school bus fire

News

A Killeen Independent School District school bus was heavily damaged by fire on Friday morning.

No students were on the bus at the time, and no one was injured.

KISD Spokesman Terry Abbott said the driver of Bus #462 thought he noticed smoke and pulled over into the parking lot of the H-E-B store on Stan Schleuter Loop and got out.

At this point, flames became visible. A statement said it was anticipated the bus will be a total loss.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire, and Killeen ISD is contacting the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)  for help in determining how it started.

TxDOT then referred the district to the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Killeen. Because the fire took place within the city limits of Killeen, DPS referred the district to the Killeen Fire Department.

The district has requested a courtesy inspection of the damaged bus by the fire marshal as a way to assist in the investigation.
