Lampasas inmate attacks jail personnel

News

A Lampasas County jail detention sergeant was sent to the hospital and a jail inmate is facing additional charges following a Friday afternoon incident

A statement issued by the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office said it happened about 3:15 p.m. Friday when inmate Eric James Morales attacked two detention officers as they tried to move him from the jail recreational area back to his jail cell.

The 29-year-old Morales was accused of refusing to cooperate and of throwing punches at the assistant jail administrator and the detention sergeant.

The sergeant was struck in the eye with a closed fist and was taken to the emergency room.

Another detention officer and the sheriff assisted in subduing Morale and getting him in restraints and moved to his jail cell without further incident.

The injured sergeant has since been released from the hospital.

The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office has filed an additional charge of assault on a public servant, a third degree felony, against Morales.

He had been originally arrested December 1, 2018 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a family member and had been in the jail since that arrest.
