Leon Co man killed in New Mexico, passenger also died

New Mexico State Police report a 33-year-old man from Buffalo in Leon County has been killed in a traffic crash in Lea County, New Mexico.

Investigators said Patricio Montano Ponce of Buffalo was the driver of a 2008 Dodge truck traveling west on New Mexico State Road 128, between Loving and Jal. For unknown reasons, the Dodge crossed the center line into the opposing east bound traffic.

The Dodge collided with a 2010 Ford F-250 going east. Ponce was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Dodge, identified as 41-year-old Rafael Arturo Licon of Fort Worth, was also killed.

The driver of the Ford, identified as a 27-year-old Carlsbad, New Mexico man, was airlifted from the scene with unknown injuries.
