“There is still no electricity, there is still no water.” says Anthony Rodriguez, President of the League of United Latin American Citizens Herencia Council #4297 also known as LULAC of Killeen.
A month after Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico is still in need.
Rodriguez continues “you know 80% of the island has no electricity the last update I received, so this particular area still has no electricity, the water is still not restored, so there is polluted water going throughout the island.”
LULAC’s Killeen Chapter partnered with Balanced Believer Ministries of Central Texas to gather donations to send to Puerto Rico.
“So you know it has just been a horrific event that’s going on and we are just trying to soothe the pain as much as possible through our efforts,” explains Rodriguez.
The donation drive goes until this Saturday, October 28th, and they need anything you can donate including money, infant clothes, and food.
The plan is to ship the container out by the first week of November.
“If everything goes as planned this container should reach them right before Thanksgiving or right around that time,” says Rodriguez.
Balanced Believer Ministries of Central Texas Bishop G.L. Grace says even though the donation drive stops tomorrow, they will continue to receive donations until the first week of November.
Grace says “we thank God for this opportunity with Puerto Rico, same as it was with Houston or any other areas, like Costa Rica, areas that were hit by Harvey, as well as Maria, we are not going to stop.”
The donation drive will go from 9am-5pm on Saturday. The address to drop off donations is at Balanced Believer Ministries 2305 Terrace Drive Killeen, Texas 76543.
Other drop off locations for donations include: TRG Realty, Inspired Design Hair Salon, Salon Chemar, First State Bank, Veterans United Home Loans.
They have also set up a GoFundMe page, click here for the link.
