TEMPLE, Texas (FOX 44)  UPDATE: The drowning victim at Temple Lake Park has been identified.

The Temple Police Department identified 21-year-old Jared Gomez as the man who drowned. Officers were dispatched at 10:25 a.m. Monday to this area. Several witnesses on the scene said they saw Gomez go underwater, but never emerge.

Several people tried to go in the water to save Gomez, but were unsuccessful. The Temple Police Department, Temple Fire and Rescue, Morgan’s Point Resort Dive Team, Army Corps of Engineers and Texas Parks and Wildlife, all assisted in the search.

Gomez was found at 1:28 p.m. Monday, and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Keith Reed. Next of kin has been notified.
