KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – A person is in custody, accused of hitting and killing a woman and then leaving the scene of the crash on December 4th, 2022.
The suspect is 35-year-old Chakria Dominique Lee. She faces a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is in the Bell County Jail on a $1m bond.
Killeen Police officers were dispatched at approximately 9:58 p.m. on Dec. 4th to a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle at S. Fort Hood Road Street and West Lane. When officers arrived, they found 39-year-old Latasha Suzanna Brenda Wright suffering from serious injuries. Officers started to perform life saving measures until paramedics arrived.
Wright succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 10:43 p.m.
Witnesses say the suspect driver fled the scene in a light-colored pickup prior to officers’ arrival. Police say Lee spoke to detectives at the police department later.
On Friday, Dec. 9th, The Bell County District Attorney’s Office decided to press charges against Lee and members of the U.S. Marshals Office – Lone Star Fugitive Task Force took her into custody.
