CORYELL COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) – UPDATE: The body found near Fort Hood in Coryell County has been identified.

The Coryell County Sheriff’s Office said on August 16 that the deceased man found near Fort Hood on August 8 has been identified as 53-year-old Thomas Harold Carter, of Killeen. This was following the notification of next of kin. The manner and cause of Carter’s death remain under investigation.

Carter was originally found dead along Interstate 14. Members of a highway clean-up team working along I-14 east, near Fort Hood’s Clarke Road exit, discovered what they believed to be the body of a deceased individual and notified deputies shortly after 10 a.m. on August 8.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Carter’s inside a tent near a line of trees. Justice of the Peace John Guinn ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwest Forensic Institute in Dallas.
