Fiery crash backs up traffic on I-35 in Waco

WACO, Texas- A Honda Civic caught fire Tuesday morning, backing up traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 in Waco.

It happened near the University Park 335C exit. Traffic was stopped beyond exit 337.

Waco Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and get a tow truck to the scene.

Firefighters say the driver was having problems with the car and pulled over for gas. When he got back on the interstate, he told firefighters the Honda stopped running and caught fire.

The driver threw some water on the fire thinking that would put it out, but then he noticed the interior of the car was burning. as well.

That’s when someone driving by stopped and tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher. At that point, the fire was too advanced.

No injuries were reported.
