A 23-year-old Lampasas man is being held on intoxication manslaughter charges after a head on crash left a 70-year-old man dead.
Tyler Allen Prothro was booked into the Lampasas County Jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
DPS spokesman Sgt. Dave Roberts says the crash occurred at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday on FM 580 about 10 miles west of Lampasas.
Investigating troopers say a 2007 Dodge pickup driven by Prothro was going east and drifted left into the oncoming traffic lane.
It then collided head on with a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 70-year-old Ronald Bascom of Lometa.
Bascom was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lampasas County Justice of the Peace Cameron Brister.
Troopers determine that alcohol was involved in the crash and arrested Prothro, who had refused medical treatment at the scene.
