UPDATE: Police have made an arrest in a hit and run crash that sent a 14-year old Midway High School student to the hospital last week.
Officers arrested Jahden Brown over the weekend for the incident that happened at the intersection of E Panther Way and Frank Street.
Police say the victim was attempting to cross the street on Thursday afternoon, and Brown’s car hit her he then drove off.
The girl was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, possibly breaking her wrist and ankle.
The intersection is not in a school zone, and is about 1,500 yards away from Midway Middle School.
In the hours after the crash, Hewitt PD Assistant Chief Tuck Saunders said, “We are following up on some leads we got, so hopefully that will pan out.“
Saunders explained if the vehicle did sustain damages, it would be on the driver’s side.
“It was a black car. We had a couple. It was either a four-door sedan or an SUV,“ Saunders says.
Saunders says it’s best to use the crosswalks if possible.
“There is a lot more vehicles out during the day, and you are walking – you definitely gotta pick and choose your time and your surroundings and when you are going to cross the street,“ Saunders explains.
“You know you have a duty to stop and identify. If you are in a crash, stop and identify yourself to the other driver and the police when you get there,“ Saunders says.
Midway High School Principal Alison Smith sent this email out to Midway parents on Thursday:
