The historic 25th Street Theater sign in Waco is officially gone.
25th Street and Grim Avenue were closed on Thursday morning while cranes removed the sign.
The city says after the recent heavy rains and winds in the area, the structural integrity of the sign deteriorated and created safety concerns.
An inspection company said given the age, size, and location of the sign over a sidewalk and traffic intersection, it needed to be taken down immediately.
The theater will be turned into a fire station and the sign will be kept in storage.
