AG snags Waco man on child porn accusation

Local

Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced that the Child Exploitation Unit of his office has arrested a 50-year-old Waco man on five counts of possession of child pornography, a third degree felony punishable by up to ten years in prison per charge.

Stevenson Randolph Carl was booked into the McLennan County Jail Wednesday with bond set at $3000 per charge.

An undercover investigation by the Child Exploitation Unit determined that child pornography was shared from a device with an IP address belonging to Carl.

A statement released by the AG’s office said that during a search of his home, investigators found multiple images of child pornography on Carl’s desktop computer.

They also confiscated a number of digital storage devices that will be examined by the Digital Forensics Unit of the Attorney General’s Office.

The statement said that Attorney General Paxton’s office works to protect children using the latest technology to track down what it termed ” the most profoundly evil predators online.”

The unit proactively seeks out and arrests predators who commit crimes against children using technology and online sources.

The Attorney General urges all parets and teachers to become aware of the risks children face on the internet and take steps to help ensure their children’s safety.

He said anyone suspecting someone of producing or downloading child pornography to report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
