The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed another arrest has been made in connection with an investigation into trafficking of persons working at the now closed Vegas Chinese Buffet.
Forty-one-year-old Sheng Da Weng was booked into the McLennan County Jail on a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity.
He shortly later posted $25,000 bond and was released.
An affidavit filed in the case seeking his arrest warrant named him as the alleged driver of a van used to transport employees of the restaurant.
He was also identified in the affidavit as a one-time manager of the kitchen where several Guatemalan citizens worked.
The van used to transport the workers was also registered to Weng.
Some of those working in the restaurant lived in the home of Zhi “Jimmy” Lin and his wife Ya Li Yang while others lived as a group in a rented apartment.
Lin and Yang were arrested previously.
Those working in the restaurant were said to be working off fees charged for bringing them there to work, with many working 13 hours a day and six days a week on a salary that worked out to be less than the minimum wage.
