The Humane Society of Central Texas held their sixth annual Bag Lady Luncheon on Thursday in hopes of raising money for the shelter.
There are a lot of pets available for adoption, and what better day to host the event than on National Pet Day. Tickets sold out for the event for the first time in it’s existence.
The fundraiser is one of their two big events for the year – the other is the Wine and Food Festival, which hopes to raise a lot of money to continue the work of saving lives.
“With our community’s support, we have a 94 percent live exit rate – where, you know, in 2012 that was 33 percent. So it’s things like this that give us the revenue to allow us to do what we need to do, and we wouldnt be able to do it without the community’s support. So all these ladies here today are coming out to support us and give us the funding we need,” says Don Bland, Humane Society of Central Texas Executive Director.
The event featured a number of new and donated designer handbags and a big raffle to win them.
The Humane Society of Central Texas is already planning to have their next Bag Lady Luncheon around the same time in 2020.
