Republican Barry Johnson has filed for McLennan County District Attorney.
Baylor Law Professor / Attorney Jim Wren will serve as campaign treasurer, with well-known political activist Mary Pirelo Howard serving as campaign manager.
Johnson is a well-respected lawyer with 28 years of experience handling over 1,000 cases and court trials in state and federal courts. He is AV Preeminent rated by prestigious Martindale-Hubbell, is board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and was named a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine.
Johnson is born and raised in Waco, and is a 1979 graduate of Baylor University. He is the son of the late Judge Joe N. Johnson, who served as Justice of the Peace and State District Judge for 40 years.
Johnson’s grandfather, Roy B. Johnson, Sr., operated the first service station in Waco at 5th Street and Webster Avenue.
Johnson has a history of mentoring young lawyers and giving back to the community. Plus, ten to 20 percent of his cases are “pro-bono” – without compensation to help those who cannot afford proper legal counsel.
