A 35-year-old Bellmead man was arrested on charges of strangulation assault and unlawful restraint after his wife had to climb out a window to escape.
The victim walked to the Bellmead police station from the home where she was attacked in the 800 block of Lewis Street, coming into the station at 1:58 a.m. Thursday morning.
The 31-year-old victim told officers her husband would not let her leave the home, saying he physically restrained her, putting his hands on her face and blocking her nose and mouth making it difficult for her to breathe, then putting his arm around her neck in a choke hold.
A statement released by police said the officers were able to see bruising on her face, arms and legs.
The victim said she was able to escape when her assailant left the bathroom where the incident occurred.
She was able to lock the door and climb out a window before walking to the police station.
After speaking to the victim, officers went to the home and were able to arrest Matthew Lane on charges of assault strangulation-family violence, a third degree felony, and unlawful restraint, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was booked into the McLennan County Jail Thursday morning.
He posted a total of $15,000 bond and was released at 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
