A truck carrying a load of alcohol caught fire in Belton early Wednesday morning, blocking I-35 in both directions for a time
City of Belton spokesman Paul Romer said the call came in at 2:57 a.m. with the fire contained mostly to the cab of the 18-wheeler.
The truck was on the southbound side near the 289A exit
The tires and fuel tanks of the rig exploded, but only after the driver was able to get out.
The trailer contained 55-gallon drums filled with isopropyl alcohol which is highly flammable, but the load did not burn.
Intially I-35 was closed in both directions because the load was flammable, but once the fire was put out the northbound lanes were reopened.
Southbound lanes remained closed for some time while the mess was cleaned up
