During the Bell County Commissioners meeting on Monday, the CenTex Fire and Arson Task Force Interlocal Agreement was approved.
This is an agreement between Bell County, Coryell County and the cities of Killeen, Harker Heights, Belton, Temple and Copperas Cove.
Their goal is to provide cooperation between those areas to make it easier to prosecute fire, arson and any other criminal cases through the sharing of information.
Bell County Fire Marshal Steven Casey says the agreement gives all the parties involved another set of hands and eyes.
“It’s real important for us to work with each other because a lot of people move from one city to the next or one county to another, and you know, they may have been suspects in arson in one place and they move to another place and no one knows. And arsons are hard to prove,” Casey says.
The program still needs approval from the other cities and counties before it can move forward. When they all do get approved, all the partners can start working on the investigation of specific fires together.
