Waco’s VA’s Center of Excellence Center for Research on Returning War Veterans has honored Lt. Colonel Dr. David Tharp for his research and clinical work.
The award ceremony took place at the Doris Miller VA Medical Center on Tuesday.
Dr. Tharp deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, where he served in the trauma hospital of the Kandahar Air Base – which was the busiest airfield in the world at the time.
Tharp returned home in 2011, and he has since made it his mission to improve patient care for combat veterans both within and outside the VA system.
Tharp now directs the Residential PTSD Program of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System.
The Director of the Center of Excellence, Lt. Colonel Dr. Michael Russell, presented the award certificate.
Tharp says this research facility in Waco is one of only three nationwide.
