Drivers beware. The Texas Department of Transportation’s annual Click It or Ticket campaign is starting this Monday.
Over 980 people who were not buckled up died in crashes on Texas streets and highways in 2018 – an increase of six percent from 2017.
Texas law enforcement will increase their efforts to ticket un-belted drivers and passengers, especially at night.
“Buckling up can also protect you from getting an expensive ticket. Especially this month, when thousands of state troopers, police officers and sheriff’s deputies will be making a special effort to issue citations to unbuckled drivers and passangers. The important thing to remember is the Click It or Ticket campaign isn’t really about tickets, it’s about saving lives and preventing serious injuries,” says Terry McCoy, TxDOT Austin District Engineer.
Unbuckled drivers and passengers face fines and court costs of up to $200. The campaign lasts until June 2.
