Motorists who drive the road that runs the eastern county line in McLennan County will see some delays and perhaps detours beginning next week.
The Texas Department of Transportation will begin a project to upgrade a stretch of FM 939 April 8.
The project, designed to increase safety along FM 939, will reconstruct, widen, and resurface the roadway from Mart to its intersection with State Highway 31 northeast of Axtell.
The roadway will be widened to include eleven foot travel lanes with three feet added to the shoulders.
Additionally, safety-end treatments will be added to culvert ends at cross drainage loctions under the roadway and adjoining private driveways.
The 22-mile project will be handled by Knife River Corporation-South out of Bryan at a cost of $6.8 million.
The work will start at Mart and work toward Axtell and is projected to be complete in Spring 2020, weather permitting.
Temporary delays and restricted travel lanes can be expecte from 7:00 a.m. til 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for the duration of the project.
TXDOT urges motorists to observe all warning signs and exercise caution when passing near construction personnel and equipment in the project area.
