A Waco couple is dead after what police say is a murder-suicide incident.
Both were found with gunshot wounds at Speegleville Marina, near Lake Waco.
According to police, a friend of the couple became worried when they didn’t show up for work.
“This afternoon about 1 o’clock, our officers responded to Speegleville Marina in reference to two persons found in a houseboat,” says Waco Police Department Sgt. Patrick Swanton. “A witness came looking for the two individuals, apparently works with them. They haven’t seen them since yesterday. Found them inside a houseboat both deceased. It is believed that in this point it’s a murder-suicide. We’re investigating to make the determination of who shot whom.”
A handgun was also found at the scene.
Authorities say discoveries like this are unusual in this area.
“Occasionally during the summer time, we have had drownings that occur out here. We’ve had family disturbances that occur out here, some assault,” Swanton said.
We spoke with a neighbor who says he only met them a couple days prior, and is saddened by the news.
“Introduced themselves to me the night before last, or couple nights ago,” says neighbor J.D. Bost. “It’s a strange feeling. I feel sorry for them. I don’t know what happened. I feel sorry for the family.”
The bodies have both been sent for an autopsy. The motive is unknown.
