A Copperas Cove couple has been arrested on two counts of injury to a child each after a school principal called police.
Arrest affidavits filed naming Ahtumb Santrice Crumb and Fabian Dominic Gamble stated that the investigation began November 6 after police were called to an elementary school regarding injuries to two young girls, ages 7 and 8.
Police say the seven-year-old was withdrawn and initially would not talk to the officer, then later said she had been ” whooped” by her mom with a belt because the mom said she had an attitude about getting up to go to school.
The affidavit said the seven-year-old had bruising that was a deep purple and black in some areas.
She ws taken to McLane Children’s Hospital to be examined.
The eight-year-old had been examined by the school nurse and in addition to the bruising had open wounds on her upper thighs.
The affidavit indicated she had been hit with a cord.
She was also taken to the hospital.
Child Protective Services questioned the couple with Ahtumb Crumb admitted to ” whooping” the girls with belts and a cord.
The arrest affidavits stated that Fabian Gamble first denied taking part, but later admitted to holding them in place while the punishment was administered.
Both were booked into the Coryell County Jail.
