Cove man charged with long time abuse of a young girl

A Copperas Cove man has been arrested on charges he abused a young girl from the time she was about four years old until she was 12.

Forty-two-year-old Heath Mitchum, Sr was picked up Monday on charges fo continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

Police began their investigation when the child made an outcry to her mother.

The child was given a forensic interview by the Children’s Advocacy Center in Belton.

The arrest affidavit quotes that interview as saying the abuse began when the victim was three or four years old and occurred as often as five or six times a week, the last time being December 4 of this year.

The arrest affidavit says the abuse occurred at a Copperas Cove, at another residence and at a hotel.

Mitchum appeared before Justice of the Peace John Guinn who set bond at $40,000
