“Dustoff” Vietnam Veterans might be getting Congressional gold medals for their bravery during the war.
The idea to honor them came from Texas Senator John Cornyn Monday when he introduced the bill to recognize this elite group of veterans.
Dustoff stands for Dedicated Unhesitating Service To Our Fighting Forces.
The crews flew unarmed in Vietnam in helicopter ambulances and rescuing wounded soldiers from the ground.
They saved about 900,000 lives.
Gary Urban, Central Texas Vietnam Veteran who often flew with them says they had the most dangerous job because the enemy would shot at them, disregarding the fact they were medics.
