Fire destroys Bellmead house

Local

Bellmead firefighters are investigating what caused the fire at one story wood framed house Sunday morning.

The house is located on January and Hatcher St.

Neighbors say no one lives in the house as it was being remodeled.

They say a worker in charge of remodeling put out a spark, but hours later woke up to a fully engulfed house.

Eddie Roundtree, who lives across the street says the cause of fire was most likely electrical.

He noticed the three bedroom house on fire and says, ” I thought is the guy working on the house still in there, that’s what was on my mind so, but apparently he wasn’t and that was a good part.”

Roundtree say the house is most likely a complete loss.

However, he questions why only one Bellmead fire truck showed up, saying the fire wasn’t put out until Waco firefighters arrived later.

“if your house caught on fire, if you have only one fire truck showing, the chances of anyone surviving or the house being savable is beyond that.”

The family of six was supposed to move in the house in the next week or two.
