Former Texas legislator Murray Watson, Jr dies

Former Texas legislator and one of those who helped bring about the creation of TSTC, Murray Watson , Jr  has died at age 86.

Funeral arrangements were pending Wednesday afternoon.

Watson was a 1952 graduate of Baylor University and a 1954 graduate of Baylor Law School.

The law school named him Baylor Lawyer of the year in 2017.

He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives 1957 and served there until 1963 when he was elected to the Texas Senate.

It was while he was a Texas State Senator that he sponsored the bill creating James Connally Technical Institute which later became Texas State Technical College.

He later would serve as general counsel for TSTC many years.
