A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to forty years in prison after entering guilty pleas to five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Aaron Brotherton had been facing a charge of continuous abuse before the plea deal was reached.

The sentences will be served concurrently.

The case was originally developed by TSTC police when the child’s grandmother discovered sexually explicit pictures and messages on the victim’s cell phone and called police in February 2015.

The child, who was under the age of 14 at the time, also had received messages on her Facebook account.

Investigators interviewed Brotherton in the Kaufman County jail in March of 2015 at which time he claimed that he took medicine for his epileptic seizures and does not remember things after that.

Court papers also quote him as saying he was flirting with someone else and got mixed up and sent explicit pictures to the wrong person.

Brotherton would be eligible for parole in twenty years.
