The wildfire incident that began July 18 along Harmon Road north of Copperas Cove is now listed as being 100% contained.
The word came in a statement issued Wednesday morning by Cove Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Gary D. Young.
He said the incident had response from multiple area fire departments as well as numerous county departments, emergency managers and several agencies from the state.
He said while the incident is listed as 100 % contained, fire crews will be winding down their response late in the day and over the next week local fire crews will be visiting the site to monitor for any stubborn smoldering fires that might reappear.
He also recognized the community, various civic groups, businesses and the Red Cross for what he termed generous support including meals and drinks for firefighters.
He noted that the initial size of the fire had been estimated to be 5,005 acres but was changed to 2,887 acres after ground level measurements were made.
