Little River Healthcare facilities unexpectedly closes its doors

Hundreds in Central Texas are being forced to find new doctors after a local clinic unexpectedly closes their doors.

Little River Healthcare, which had more than 10 clinics locally, originally filed for bankruptcy back in July.

Patients at the King’s Daughters Clinic in Temple were showing up for their regular appointments to closed doors on Wednesday. It was a surprise to patients with almost no notification the clinics were shutting down.

Debbie Rogers has been visiting the Temple for over 30 years. She was one of the patients greeted with locked doors.

“It’s not easy just to go into a new doctor’s office and just start all over,” Rogers said “A friend just told me about 30 minutes ago that they just closed and I just came by to see if there was a sign or to see if it  was true.”

The signs on their doors match what’s on their website, explaining that Little River Healthcare ceased all operations due to financial reasons.

“It’s just going to be a hassle for everybody,” Patient Shirley Bortz said. “Especially the older people.”

The group filed for bankruptcy back in July according to a letter released at that time says they were working with a lender in order to stay afloat. But the abrupt closing is leaving a bad taste with some longtime patients.

“They could have handled it a lot better because I don’t know if they found out yesterday or today that they would have to shut their doors,” patient Gabriel Hernandez said.

“First of all, can you get refills on your prescriptions? Finding or hoping that you would be able to see your doctor again if they open the facility back up,” Rogers said.

The closure is also leaving close to 300 people without jobs.

“Very sad,” Bortz said. “I mean it’s sad that someone along the clinic let it get to this situation.”

FOX 44 reached out to Little River Healthcare for comment, still waiting an official response.
