A Lorena mother wants a stoplight at one intersection after her daughter’s car crash.
Right now there are stop and yield signs at Old Lorena and Chapel Road, but Terri Rohrer says this is not enough.
She has has plenty of supporters through a petition she started two days ago. So far, over 2,000 people have signed it.
Rohrer has lived through every parent’s worst nightmare when her teenage daughter Anna got into a car crash last month.
“When it is your child, it hits home in a very real and terrifying way. We just knew immediately that it was a miracle that they were both alive,” Rohrer says.
Anna collided with another driver at this intersection.
“I was a little confused at first, but when I realized what happened then it was scary,” Anna says.
Now her mother wants the Texas Department of Transportation to put a stoplight here – hoping to save lives and prevent other crashes.
“The cars are coming so fast on the road because of the hill coming towards Highway 84 that even when you are cautious, it is really hard to see other cars,” Anna says.
TxDOT Representative Kenneth Roberts says road safety is their priority, but only a traffic study can show the best solution.
“We don’t want to just apply something as a response and find that we have created other problems. At times, a four-traffic signal stopping traffic in all directions is not the answer,” Roberts says.
