Copperas Cove Police report that a man already under a protective order has been arrested, accused of violating that order and assaulting and threatening the protected person.
Charges against Todd Stephen Porter include assault with bodily injury family violence, choking, violation of a protective order and terroristic threat of a family member.
The arresting officer also noted finding a small plastic baggy in Porter’s shirt pocket containing a crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, leading to the additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
The police complaint filed in the case indicated that at 11:13 p.m. Wednesday, ptwo officers were sent to a home in the 500 block of Meggs Street in reference to a domestic dispute.
They found Porter and the victim at the scene and determined that Porter already had an emergency protective order issued against him ” prohibiting him from assaulting, stalking, or communicating” with the protected person in a threatening or harrasing manner.
Investigating officers said in their statement that Porter had become angry because he believed the victim had been rummaging through his property, so he threw a glass of water at the victim before punching her in the side of the head and choking her.
Police say that while he was choking her, told her that “he was going to have to kill her and that he would get some lye so that her body would not be found.”
Porter was taken into custody at the scene.
