Waco police are holding 63-year-old man on attempted murder charges after another elderly man was brutally beaten in a convenience store parking lot.

Police spokesman Patrick Swanton says police were called at 5:10 p.m. Monday by a person who said they thought a man had been killed in the AJ’s Food Mart parking lot in the 500 block of Faulkner Lane.

When they got there, they found 69-year-old Bobby Ray Stephens alive but very seriously injured.

Police interviewed witnesses and discovered video evidence that the victim had been stomped on the head, heck and throat.

Stephens was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital where he was being treated for a spinal fracture, brain bleeds and other injuries.

Police developed an identity of the suspect and found him in the 400 block of Carver Street.

The suspect, identified as 63-year-old Kenneth Anderson was interviewed, arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He was booked into the McLennan County Jail.
