The McLennan County Jail reports a man arrested by a DPS Sunday for smuggling of persons and money laundering has posted $10,000 bond and has been released.
A judge had set bond at $5,000 on each charge for 36-year-old Alfonso Galvan, who listed an address in Denton.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Ryan Howard said Galvan was the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck that was stopped for a minor traffic violation at 10:20 a.m. Sunday near mile marker 355 on I-35 in West.
Howard said that while troopers were speaking with Galvan, it was discovered he was being paid to transport four people who were in the country illegally.
As the investigation went on, $10,000 in cash was found in the driver’s possession.
The four individuals in the pickup with him were released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Jail records indicate Galvan was booked into the McLennan County Jail at 3:13 p.m. Sunday and after his bond was set, was released at 11:29 a.m. Monday.
