A Rockdale man is found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Younger than Six.

A Milam County jury returned a guilty verdict on Friday after deliberation for a little over one hour.

The jury found 55-year-old Ronald Dale Shafer, of Rockdale, guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child Younger than Six – a first degree felony.

The verdict came after a four-day trial.

Shafer’s sentencing was scheduled for Monday in District Judge John W. Youngblood’s 20th District Court. However, the State and the defense reached an agreement on sentencing of thirty years’ confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the defendant waived all right to appeal.

Due to the enhancement of this crime, the defendant will not be eligible for parole at any time during his 30-year sentence.

The defendant also pled guilty to two counts of Second Degree Indecency with a Child for an additional victim, and was sentenced to twenty years’ confinement in the TDCJ.

Assistant District Attorney Brian Price prosecuted the State’s case.
