MARLIN, Texas – On Monday, the Marlin City Council named an interim police chief after a unanimous vote.
“It’s just an extra challenge. It’s a temporary challenge,” says Cedric Davis, Marlin City Manager-turned-Interim Police Chief.
Davis has 30 years of law enforcement experience, and will lead the department during the search for a permanent police chief.
When Davis signed his contract as Marlin City Manager, they created a clause stating he could stand in as police chief if an emergency occurred.
On Friday, Chief Nathan Sodek committed suicide while Texas Rangers served him with a Sexual Assault Arrest Warrant.
“That’s unbelievable. I knew the police chief, and it’s not his character,” says friend Karen Evans.
Evans says she and Sodek went to the same church for about seven months.
For now, Davis says the city will provide grief counselors for those affected, and they will post the job for the new chief on Friday.
