Memorial plan for missing College Station child

A public visitation has been scheduled for Hazana Anderson, the one-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted and beaten to death by her mother and boyfriend in October.

Callaway-Jones has been in touch with Anderson’s father and they say he wants two things – to thank the community and for people to donate to kids who were abused.

Cassie Medlin with Scotty’s House, a non profit who helps kids with abuse or neglect, says she’s still outraged after what happened Hazana Anderson, the toddler reported missing by her mother last month.

“Just because she wasn’t our little girl, doesn’t mean that we didn’t feel that pain or cried those tears when we heard about that story and what happened to her,” Medlin said. “It’s just one of those things where you just hug your friends, and your kids, your friends kids a little bit tighter and keep an eye out. When they say it takes a village to raise your kids, nothing has been truer.”

According to police records, Anderson’s mother 21-year-old Tiaundra Christon and her boyfriend Kenny Hewett were arrested days after finding a child’s body in Galveston County. Now Anderson’s father is asking others to donate to help children like his daughter.

“With this tragedy you know, someone is thinking of others including our clients and the clients that we will see here so there are no words to express that,” Medlin said. “I can’t even imagine what kind of tragedy he is going through but to think of others in his time of tragedy is remarkable and amazing.”

Police have not identified the child’s body found in October. However, family wants to take the time to thank the community for their support in a time of tragedy.

“People that didn’t know her were in tears over Hazana,” Medlin said. “So remember that the next time you are afraid to speak up or speak out.”

The father is now holding a memorial at the Callaway-Jones Funeral Center on December 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The funeral home is also taking brand new toys for Scotty’s House as well as coats and warm clothing in all sizes through December 19. Donations can be dropped off at their location at 3001 S. College Avenue in Bryan.

Project Unity will distribute the clothes to children in need and the donated clothes will go to clients at Scotty’s House.
