Veterans and soldiers coming home from deployment now have a mental healthcare clinic in Killeen at their disposal.

It’s not only helping soldiers with PTSD and other issues, but their families as well.

“This unique opportunity provides high quality integrated health care that’s accessible to veterans and their families,” said Travis Pearson, President & CEO of Endeavors.

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors in Killeen is not the 4th in the state of Texas, aiming to help military soldiers and veterans.

“To make sure that we save lives, save families and save futures.”

The clinic not only helps those soldiers, but just as importantly, it provides aid to they’re families as well.

“When our service members deploy, their family members deploy with them. what they do is share those hardships with the service member. They share those long periods of time away from one another. So it’s only fair that if they deploy together, they need to come home and heal together,” said Kyle White, Spokesman for Cohen Veterans Network.

On Friday, U.S. Senator John Cornyn visited the facility before addressing dozens of military soldiers and their families.

“The real question is whether we keep our commitments after they take off their uniform,” said Sen. Cornyn.

According to the American Physiological Association… one third of returning service members have reported symptoms of mental health… and 56 percent of all spouses have reported experiencing stress.

“The VA is authorized of course to help the veteran but not the entire family,” added Sen. Cornyn.

Those issues don’t stop with the parents, one third of children with at least one deployed parent have had psychological challenges such as depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders.

“The stresses and strains of raising a family are tough enough but when you compound that with the separation of families from their loved one that happens to be deployed abroad, it makes it even tougher,” said Sen. Cornyn.

Other clinics are already established in Dallas, San Antonio, and El Paso, and the Cohen Veteran Network hopes to have 13 nationwide by the end of the year.

“This place will be kind of a hub, we open our doors to other organizations serving the military or veterans, they can come here, they can meet, we can share ideas, strategies and coordinate resources,” said Pearson.
